YOU SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO ME FROM THE START.
THIS TV TOOK A BIG DUMP ON ITSELF.
The bad:
Expensive; benefits of 240Hz difficult to discern; dejudder modes can produce artifacts; some screen uniformity and off-angle issues; dark areas tinged bluer; most free, streaming-video options not compelling.
This TV will be at $2500 by Christmas 2009.
WOW! DID NOT EVEN HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL CHRISTMAS FOR THIS TV TO DROP. HA!
More to Know:
1) The KDL-XBR9 series is rich in features. One thing it lacks, however, is LED backlighting–unlike the Sony XBR8 models from last year, the XBR9′s have a standard cold-cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlight. Aside from slightly wider color gamut on that backlight–which should have no effect on color accuracy–and styling, the XBR9 models are identical to the less-expensive Z5100 series.
2) These sets cost a bundle, and while they deliver plenty of features, including a lot of built-in interactive add-ons, they can’t match the video quality of the best plasma and LED backlit LCDs on the market, nor the ultrathin style of Samsung’s edge-lit LED models. The Sony KDL-XBR9 series exhibited respectable enough performance, to be sure, and we’re sure gadget freaks will find a lot to like about its streaming capabilities and its Yahoo Widgets, but if you don’t care about those extras, it’s hard to justify the high price tag.
3) Overall, the Sony KDL-XBR9′s picture can compete well against the best conventional LCDs we’ve tested, but its black level performance still couldn’t match that of the best LED-based LCDs and plasmas. The 240Hz refresh rate did improve motion resolution, but it was found it hard to tell the difference with normal program material.
The bottom line:
Sony’s high-end KDL-XBR9 series of LCD TV offers a bundle of extras and solid picture quality, but the price will turn off most buyers.

The TV was very good.I opted for the bundle – TV + home theater for $1999
While mounting it on a swivel stand I noticed that out of the 4 bolt holes (on the back side of set) one hole is missing its thread. It is not the screw.bolt. I had M6 screws. Amazon couldn’t provide me a replacement because they ran out of stock. I checked with Sony who suggests that the best bet would be to return to Amazon. Now that Thanks Giving sale is over, I can’t get that kind of TV at that price. I am stuck with a big TV stand which I bought just to house that TV.

Does anyone out there know if and when SONY or SAMSUNG are going to produce a 240hz, 52″ LCD TV with LED back lighting? I’ve seen the 55″ XBR8 and the SAMSUNG 7000 and they are truly awesome, but are only 120hz and I can’t fit any thing bigger than a 52″ TV in the space I have. We watch lots of tennis and some times it’s difficult to follow the ball at 60/120hz speed. Sony Bravia XBR KDL-55XBR8 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Triluminos LED LCD HDTV .

We got this TV at a great buy of 1700$ which included BD player and Home theater system, got carried away by the price, I switched my mind from Samsung B750 to buy this XBR9.I got this TV and plugged in my DirecTV and was watching for 2 days and it wasnt very impressive, sound is great but the picture looks grain or blurry. I try to change a lot of settings like Backlight, gamma and hue, so I made it a little better still it is not like awesome and impressive. On top of this the TV went blank and it wont come up until I plug the power out and power back in. I called SONY customer service and their service was great and filed as a defective TV and took it to the store and returned it and bought SAMSUNG B750.After booting up my Samsung, wow what a difference in Picture quality and you can see a 3D effect on the figures.Even the non HD chanels are better looking that sony HD channel.I made a right decision else I would have been stuck with this poor SONY TV and be regretting for that.If you are looking for a good picture quality to show yourself and your friends please dont buy this TV, then you will get mad everyday.
Pros : SONY Support, Sound,
Cons : Bad Picture Quality, Grains and no sharpness on the image, blurry
